ANAHEIM, CA – October 15, 2006 -- Jazillian, Inc., a company specializing in Java translation services,
announced today a new translation solution that converts COBOL to “natural” Java source code quickly
and effectively with minimum rework. Jazillian’s “natural” Java code looks like it was manually written,
so it is easy to maintain and modify. The company made its announcement at IBM’s Information on Demand
Conference in Anaheim, CA.
Following on the heels of the company’s successful C-to-Java Translation Solution launch last May,
this offering is designed to enable the migration of COBOL to Java in SOA and J2EE web-based environments.
The Jazillian Solution generates “natural” Java output code customized to client and application needs,
providing a clean, extensible code base platform. Like Jazillian’s C-to-Java Solution, the COBOL-to-Java
Solution replaces the manual rewrite process of code translation. It takes the grunt work out of the
re-architecture and rewrite process, enabling clients to focus on the high level design issues.
The Jazillian methodology significantly reduces development time and translation in the transformation process.
When asked why the focus on COBOL, Jazillian CTO and founder Andy Tripp noted that a shortage of
developers and resources, coupled with the cost of maintaining legacy environments and the
standardization of applications have fueled a gradual move from COBOL to Java platforms.
He highlighted an article in Data Center News May 2005 where Mark Lillycrop, CEO of Arcati
Research and Publishing said, “COBOL is like an invisible giant. There's reported to be
180 billion-200 billion lines of code out there, processing 75% of commercial business.”
At the conference Tripp and the Jazillian team announced that C++-to-Java will be next
in the Solution line and is expected to be released by December 1, 2006.
